At last night’s “1st Thursday” worship service at the church, I believe God gave me an image as an answer to my questions about where I am going (or- finding my place in a ministry and in a career). I usually visualize myself and Jesus being somewhere together and that’s one way I spend time with him. So I visualized myself in a rowboat with me rowing and Him steering. Then it occurred to me; He can see where we are going and is steering us. I can only look at Him as I work. If I try to turn around to look, the boat goes off course. I can see the bank on either side and often it seems I am going nowhere. I pull hard, but I am trying to pull against a tide race. If I stop rowing I lose ground, so I pull and stay put. But I’m getting stronger… And this incoming tide won’t last forever. As it reaches the peak of its flood I’ll begin to move forward. When it begins its ebb race, we’ll be moving along swiftly with little effort. So I keep pulling, and keep watching Jesus’ face. His confidence gives me confidence. - 1/6/05 |
