No parking spaces close, but a nice walk in the shade. No seats left, but a good view from where we stood. No air conditioning, but a lovely breeze that drove away the humidity and mosquitoes. A warm evening, but no rain; everyone could attend. Poor PA system, but we could hear when the names were called. And that was the exciting part! They called her name! We all cheered! She stepped up to the platform, The wind was blowing her hair, her gown, and her two sashes, But her hat did not fly off. She stepped forward and shook the principal’s hand. He handed her the diploma and smiled proudly. She seemed so tall. Her back was to us for that photo opportunity, But as she stepped down from the stage, And came around from behind it, I caught the perfect picture- Kristin walking tall, Long strides, Her heart and mind complete. She is a woman to be admired. “Someone released some balloons, And they rose and flew away, Embarked on their own adventures, Like the aspirations of the day.” ~ Kristin’s Graduation – 5/27/04
