Farewell, my Friend. I cried for my friend today, One might’ve thought he’d died, But even as he moves away, He still holds a place inside. They were not tears of bitterness, Nor of friendship that has gone, But rather tears of gratitude, Offered to our Father’s throne. I thank God for the friend He gave me, To walk me through my hardest times, Who accepted turmoil in my heart, Expressed through poetic lines. He heard my thoughts and struggles, Fearing neither worst nor best, Instead, believing victory, For me in every test. And when we floated lazily, On fresh or saltwater streams, He listened and believed for me, My craziest of dreams. I see now God’s Holy Wisdom, Who would’ve cared for me Himself, In sending William Brown, To guide me safely past myself. For God’s Holy Grace flowed through him, It lit my tangled path, And helped me to accept myself, And quiet hell’s mental wrath. My friend was God’s great blessing, Though he thinks that I was, too, But that is how great friendships are, Minds now one instead of two. So I dried my tears of thankfulness, Then headed for the mill, I’ll wish him a safe journey, For I know that is God’s Will. I know we’ll be reunited, On either this or Heaven’s shore, And to say that is a blessing, I could not ask for more. Farewell, My Friend.
