The Drop
Part Two

“Well,” John said to himself, “I guess now is as good a time as any.”

The clock on the wall of the pump rebuild shop read 1:38 pm. John brought the hoist over to the vice where he was working. He hooked the straps onto the pump rotating element, loosened the vice, and placed the rotating element onto the table. Then he went to the sink to wash his hands.

A few minutes later John was drying his hands as he stepped into the office. His work partner Chuck was writing a work order on the computer.” Hand me the Warren book, will you?” asked John.

Chuck did so. “Are you taking the 5DTB11 down?”

“Yeah.” John took a red tag out of a box and sat down at the computer next to Chuck's. “I'm pretty sure the ring clearance is twenty to twenty four thousandths, but I like to be sure.”

“Good man.” Chuck smiled and nodded. “Make sure you tell them to balance it, too.”

“I will.” John verified the information with the book then wrote the instructions on the red tag. He handed the book back to Chuck. “Thanks. I'll be right back.”

John went back into the shop and tied the tag onto the rotating element. He opened the door, then carried the rotating element outside and placed it in the bed of the pickup truck. He sat down in the truck and started the engine.

“Wait a minute, John! You almost forgot.” Leaving the engine running, he went back into the shop and into the office.

“Back so soon? That WAS fast.”

John laughed. He went to his lunch bag and, turning away from Chuck, took out two comic-book style Gospel tracts and quickly but casually slipped them into his shirt pocket.

“I'll be right back,” he said and returned to the truck. He shifted into drive and headed for the other side of the paper mill. He drove slowly.

“Father, bless whoever finds these tracts. Give them a desire not to throw them away. Give them a curiosity to read them, help them understand the Gospel message in them, and help them to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. For their salvation and Your Glory. Thank you, Father. In Jesus' name, Amen.”

John thought for a moment. “Thank you, Lord for allowing me to see Tommy reading that tract at the meeting on Monday. It was the one I had left in the bathroom. I mean, I assume people are reading them, but it's nice to see it first hand. That's why I am going to make another drop today. I figure I'll drop these two in the garage where he works. This pump element is small enough for me to carry through the garage to the machine shop. I'll make the drop on the way back.”

John had to stop where a fork truck was unloading a large flatbed truck. The fork truck picked up a pallet and drove it into the warehouse. John proceeded.

“Lord, I feel kind of odd asking this, but could you help me to make the drop without anyone seeing me? It's not that I'm ashamed of the Gospel. You know that. Everyone knows I'm a Christian and I talk about You to anyone! I just think that if no one actually sees me dropping the tracts, then they can't give me a direct order to stop.”  He paused a moment. “I think a lot of people figure it's me anyway.”
